can I be honest with you?
I wasn’t prepared for school to start.
I had planned to write and bank posts for September and October and it didn’t end up happening due to life, work, and other things.
During high school, I would read my syllabus weeks before and create custom art for the covers of my binders. This year, I grabbed an old binder of my brother’s the day before school started.
School’s not going terrible, other than the homework gets a little overwhelming. But everyone tells me that “it’s just the first week, you’ll figure it out.”
I’m playing a lot of things by ear right now, but I did write out a few goals I have for the fall sememster. One is auditioning for the fall play and the other is to keep my grades above 80%.
I was telling a friend one night that my life doesn’t feel busy, per say. But it does feel full. (Which is good, I guess, as long as there’s a way to sqeeze Flight Patterns into the mix.) 📚
Some cHaNgEs that may be happening…
-schedule being more flexible. (I try to get my newsletter Recaps out the 29-31 and the Updates out the 14-16 of the month)
-return to three posts a month. This is actually how I’ve had Flight Patterns for a while but have had the mental capacity to write four most months.
-start curating content. There’s so much good stuff out there I’ll likely start creating more posts where I simply recommend people’s articles.
{highlights}
✨ VBS - I signed up as a floater (available to help with odds and ends) and ended up being a guide for a group of 7-9 year olds. It was a crazy week in the “jungle,” and I got to practice managing overstimulation by finding dark closets to nap in afterwards.
✨ Being cross-trained for the memory care unit at work, which gives me more variety and shifts available to pick up (and more 5 am phone calls to see if I can cover last-minute XD.)
✨ Movie night(s) with friends (Enola Holmes and No Way Home.) 📽️
✨ Literally every time I see a cat. 🐈
✨ Grocery shopping like a /real/ adult.
✨ Making a cute planner for my binder. (download a free copy here)
✨ Auditions for the school play.
✨ Randomly Christmas caroling at a professor’s office door.

Escaping the Content Creator Mindset
The word “content” leaves a funny taste in many creators’ mouths, but we still use it. “Content” is the bucket term for a wide variety of media (but most often short form video) intended for popular consumption. Creators feel pressure to feed algorithms and create for a generation of people who have short attention spans and constantly want more dopamine.
The Foundations of Thought
Today’s post involves Marie Antoinette, Avatar, and doubting everything you know. (It was originally about studios and creative spaces, but you’ll have to wait a bit for that one.) **NOTE: this post is long and covers a variety of topics. I promise I tie it all together at the end.

Two Truths and a Lie (coffee themed!)☕
1) I own more mugs than years I’ve been alive.
2) the most coffee I’ve had in one day is five cups.
3) it can take me 4 days to get through one pot of coffee.
Best wishes,
Desiree Flaming
How'd you enjoy Enola Holmes?
