Flight Patterns September Recap
I know it’s fall when I feel the urge to wax poetic over wet pavement, my literature teacher is even more gothic than normal, and I’m scrambling to write for Flight Patterns in between classes.
highlights / what happened in September
✨went to a school dance and learned how to unlock a car after locking the keys inside. ️🔑🚗
✨made zucchini bread but didn’t have enough zucchini, so I substituted some squash. It’s a little dry for my taste, 2/5 would not recommend. 🥒🍞
✨studied Edgar Allan Poe extensively (as per my enthusiastically Gothic lit teacher). This dude really had a thing for characters hiding bodies in architecture. I can count 4 stories where this happens off the top of my head.👻🖤💀🧱
✨also studied Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe, Edgar’s wife and first cousin. (He was twice her age.) 👧🥀
✨wrote a paper on women’s issues in the Gilded Age — yeah I’ve been told that’s boring— but did you know, some women took axes into saloons and smashed up the kegs? They were tired of the financial and physical effects of alcoholism in their marriages. 👩💼🪓🍻
✨working on a real-world marketing project with a local baker for my Marketing Principles class. 🧁
✨am learning all kinds of fun things in my General Psychology class! We've discussed whether people actually have souls (which is a Greek concept and differs from the Hebrew point of view.) We talked about neurotransmitters like dopamine and endorphins and how they work both on the cellular level and how they effect the whole body. (And all I could think was “Yep, Mom was right about this!”) We’ve also talked about perception and altered states of consciousness. 🧠
✨experienced a bit of a career shift. I formally resigned from caregiving (due to high stress levels and also we passed the state inspection, so it was a logical time to transition out.) I’m currently working on campus as the university’s interlibrary loan coordinator (which in English, means I mail books to other libraries and fill out paperwork to keep track of the books.)📚
✨God does really cool things. The same week that I left the retirement home, I received an email for someone I’ve done work for occasionally and was offered some copywriting to work on. Really looking forward to this since it’s basically my dream job. ️📑

[reveal] Two Truths and a Lie (coffee themed!)☕
1) I own more mugs than years I’ve been alive. This is the lie… I live in a tiny space, and if I had that many mugs I wouldn’t have room any other dishes. I have 12 mugs and one teacup. (Not all the mugs are used for drinking out of.)
2) the most coffee I’ve had in one day is five cups. Yes, that was a scary Sunday, I forgot how much coffee I had consumed and finished off a friend’s cup.
3) it can take me 4 days to get through one pot of coffee. This is a true, unfortunate experience. The coffee sitting next to me was brewed six days ago. For context, my coffeemaker brews 4 cups (like the literal measurement) at a time.
Ironically y’all severely overestimated to how many mugs I own and underestimated how slow of a coffee drinker I am (I get distracted easily)
Two Truths and a Lie (pet themed!) 🐈
My family has owned 7 cats in my lifetime.
Our calico cat was adopted from a neighbor when they moved.
Our orange cat was female, an autosomal recessive trait.
Best wishes,
