It was just a school assignment, submit some poems to a literary magazine. I never imagined they’d actually be picked up.
Then I got the email… two of my poems, “Full Moon” and “Fluent” were picked up by one of the magazines to which I had submitted.
Advanced praise for Full Moon:
This striking poem addresses the self, our place in the universe, and the many dualities our beliefs can carry. The ending speaks beautifully to how we might sacrifice something for someone else and how our perception of things can change with new experiences. It’s vulnerable, it’s raw, and it’s beautifully done. This one will appear in Issue 9 of Lit Shark Magazine: The Winter Edition, and we’re so grateful to share it with you.
I also had the opportunity to read “Fluent” at the Salem Poetry Festival this past Friday.
Upcoming, I’m participating again in the Fusion Art Show, a poetry event the Humanities Department puts on, where painters and photographers interpret poems visually. I have three different works in the show this year, a poem, a photograph, and a painting.
Rumor has it that another student wrote a paper on my essay, but I haven’t been able to read it yet. If you’re in Oregon, the Fusion Art Show is Thursday, March 6th at 7pm, at Corban University.
Best Regards,
Desiree Flaming.
