God With Us - graphic novel release
I first encountered Matt Mikalatos in his Young Adult soft fantasy series the Sunlit Lands, featuring oddball humor interlaced with thought-provoking themes of justice and the consequencesof our actions. Oh did I mention there's a rhinoceros? I love that rhinoceros.
Later, his book My Imaginary Jesus became one of my favorite reads of 2024.
This April 1st marks the release of Matt's latest project, a graphic novel called God With Us.
And no, it's not a April Fool's prank, I've been able to read the advanced galley copy, and let me tell you, even in greyscale this book is cool, and I'm so excited to see it in color.
Set on the road to Emmaus, this graphic novel is less of a play by play of the Bible and more of a selection of Bible stories that illustrate who Jesus is and why he came to die.
The graphic novel follows siblings Rachel and Moshe, and their parents Cleopas and Miriam, as a stranger appears to them on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus.
“Matt… explor[es] the story's implications with creative imagination.” -Benjy Abraham, Bible Project.
This graphic novel would be a great gift or addition to a family library. It could be used to spark discussions in a Sunday school class or homeschool curriculum. However you interact with this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
